What We Do
Introduction
The Elahi Welfare Foundation (EWF), is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political, and non-religious humanitarian organization. It is organized under the LAWS OF THE STATE OF TEXAS. It is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service (Tax ID: 83-0403238). It is duly registered in Pakistan under the Society Registration Act, XXI of 1860. The registered office of the Foundation is situated at our home village of Tajak, in Attock District, Punjab.
Today the district consists of 6 tehsil: namely
Hazro, Attock, Jand, Pindigheed, Hassanabdal, and Fateh Jang. It has an area of 2,642 sq. miles and a population of 1.89 million. It is considered the most underdeveloped district of Punjab.
EWF was selected for the 2016 Best of Arlington Awards for Charity by the Arlington Business Recognition. Elahi Welfare Foundation was established in memory of our late father Sheikh Amar Elahi, Advocate. Its main purpose is the welfare of rural society of Pakistan. Out of a total population of about 220 million, almost 154 million (70 percent) live in villages, of which 123 million (80 percent) live below the poverty lines. We sincerely believe that taking initiatives at the village level and working hand-in-hand with the local community is the right approach in creating solutions to tackle the inequalities faced by many.
EDUCATION
Education is essential for the prosperity of every country. We have enhanced the infrastructure of schools we previously built. Within the district, there are 1,287 government schools, with 51% (654 schools) catering specifically to female students. However, despite this, the literacy rate stands at a mere 26.3%.
Here are examples of our achievements in the sector:
- Drilled and installed 105 tube wells (7 this year)
- 34 hand pumps (2 this year) and fitted 9 water motors (4 this year)
- Donated 33 electric water coolers (1 this year) to the schools, which had none at a cost of approximately $12,000.
- Provided 1,588 electric ceiling fans
(23 this year) in 30 schools at the cost of approximately $18,000 - In 50 schools for girls and boys we built 56 toilets at the cost of $25,000
- Paved 3,600 sq. ft. ground in one school and 2,500 sq. ft. in another school
- Provided 15 computers and furnished 3 computer labs
- Donated to install a laboratory in high school for the study of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology
- In 19 schools we have built new classrooms (1 this year)
- Repaired 10 school buildings with new windows, doors, roofs, and floors
- In 2015 a free English medium, Elahi Welfare Elementary School, was established on our premises. Tuition, books, and uniforms are free—which is unlike any private school in the country. In the near future, our plans include constructing a college exclusively for women.
HEALTH
Considering rural areas have limited healthcare services, we provide help through Rural Health Centers (RHCs) and Basic Health Units (BHUs).
- Examples of our services in the sector:
We provided RHC to village Rangoo
with the state-of-the-art equipment for the surgical operation theatre, provided a dental chair, an X-ray machine, an ultrasound, nebulizer and much more. - Donated free medication for leprosy
and kidney disease and free food to
poor patients through a local Welfare Organization at DHQ Hospital, tehsil Attock. - Malik Riaz Uddin has been arranging a free eye camp at village Malowal (Tehsil Pindi Ghaib) since 2002. In 2021 we donated Rs 50,000 and Rs 100,000 in 2023.
- Rafakat Khan of Jalia, arranges a Medical camp every year. He brings specialists of various fields from the Alshafa International Hospital, Rawalpindi. Numerous male and female patients undergo examinations and receive complementary medications. We are actively engaged and have made contributions to this initiative.
SOCIAL WELFARE
Our focus in this aspect lies in supporting services and activities that enhance the well-being of both the community and individuals, with an emphasis on the marginalized and disadvantaged segments of society.
We give you a few examples of our services in this sector:
- Gave karza Hassana (loan without interest) to 16 individuals to start their business. Also gave a loan to 2 people to improve their dwellings.Donated 20 sewing machines to women and men in need to make their livelihood.
- Financial assistance was given to widows and orphans on Eid-ul-Azha, Eid-ul-Fitar, and other occasions.
- As dowry, we donated 10 pedestal fans, 3 sets of chairs and tables, 3 iron boxes for bedding and Rs 40,000 as cash.
- Donated 45 wheelchairs and 30 walkers for disabled persons.
- The Anti TB Association, Thalassemia Center and Manzor Elahi Orphanage House at Attock city, are given annual financial assistance.
- Cancer patient was given Rs 25,000.
- Donated Rs 100,000 to four women in need .
